This development in Chicago’s South Loop is one of Chicago’s most iconic condo buildings. The complex was first constructed in 1969 as a luxury apartment building, and it was later converted to condos. River City is one of the most unique condo developments in Chicago – or in the country, for that matter – because of the building’s curved exterior, which resulted in condos that are less rectangular and ‘boxy’ than a typical condo. The building is located along the South Branch of the Chicago River, which is somewhat secluded from the rest of the city with the river to the west, a rail switchyard to the east, and a large field to the north. So although the development is conveniently located just a few blocks from downtown Chicago, it can feel remote and cut off from the rest of the city.

One of River City’s most distinguishing features is the fact that it features a marina beneath the building, which means that residents that own their own boats need only to step out on the back dock to go for a cruise. In addition to the marina (which is year-round, by the way, meaning that you can story your boat there in the off-season too), River City features a number of other special features that set it apart from the other condo developments in the South Loop. The available units at River City range in price from the mid $500,000s to the low $400,000s; however, there are studios in this complex that can be considerably cheaper.
